COMPTEL DATA ANALYSIS

Production processing and basic scientific analysis of flight data from COMPTEL is carried out with the COMPTEL Processing and Analysis Software System (COMPASS). The COMPTEL collaboration has released the COMPASS software package to the COSSC, where it is currently being installed. It will be available for general use by Guest Investigators in the analysis of COMPTEL archival data once verification of proper installation has been completed.

• A (long!) postscript document entitled An Introductory Guide to COMPASS (82 pages) is available.

• A COMPASS Users Page has been set up to provide information on COMPTEL data processing and analysis.

• A document describing COMPTEL Data Analysis Standards (10 pages, periodically updated), prepared by R. Diehl, Coordinator of the COMPTEL Data Reduction Group (DRG), is available.

• To display and manipulate COMPASS FITS-type files, the MFITS package (by Hans Bloemen) is particularly useful. A description, installation guide, and users' manual for MFITS are available. The MFITS Version 3 Users' Guide (26 pages) is also available separately.

NOTE: Printed copies of the COMPASS and MFITS manuals can be requested from the CGRO Science Support Center at the NASA/GSFC.
