UNH/COMPTEL Visitor Parking

By definition, parking is always problematic on a university campus, and UNH
(of course!) is no exception.

Parking is especially tight right around our building (Morse Hall = the old Science and Engineering Research Bldg), particularly in the winter time, when plowed snow seems to reduce the number of available spaces by about a factor of two.

THE SIMPLE, PREFERRED SOLUTION:

There are a couple of loading-dock areas, on two sides of Morse Hall (a quasi-hexagonal building). ONE of these can be used by visitors to EOS (our institute) for parking, IF THERE'S ROOM. This is the (smaller) loading area on the WEST side of the building (there are a couple of trailers parked in it). (Note the other larger loading area has the dumpster; this is the one you should NOT use.) There's room on the EOS side for maybe 6-8 cars. If you can squeeze in here, that's the simplest solution (we can get you a special daily permit from the EOS director's office). As long as you aren't obviously blocking someone in, it's usually OK.

THE MORE COMPLICATED, OFFICIAL SOLUTION:

At the time you arrive, this EOS loading area may be full (and sometimes it's closed because it's actually being used as a loading area for heavy equipment, of all things). In which case the "official" procedure is to go to the UNH Visitor Information Center which is located across Main St. from the field-house/football-field complex (past the railroad tracks on the west end of campus). Look for the horticulture greenhouses, and the windmill; the Visitors' Center is located nearby behind them, adjacent to a large expanse of student parking; there are usually campus shuttle buses parked behind it. In principle, you are required to leave your car there for the day, during normal business hours (you must go inside the parking office and get a permit, to leave your car in their lot). We're only about a 10-minute walk away, or, if the weather is bad, they also run shuttle buses from there that go around campus, and can drop you off here.

IF YOU'RE STAYING AT THE NEW ENGLAND CENTER ON CAMPUS:

Just leave your car at the NE Center; they have their own parking area. We're only a 10-minute walk across campus (and the walk will do you good).

The UNH/COMPTEL group is on the third floor of Morse Hall; Jim Ryan is in Room 310, Greg Stacy is in Room 316, and the Space Science Center office (Naomi Preble) is in Room 315.

If you need local directions, send us your fax number and mailing address, and we will fax and/or mail you some maps, including a campus map. If you can't reach Jim Ryan or Greg Stacy, or your designated contact person, you can try Naomi Preble (the person who really does all the work around here), in the Space Science Center office.
