Wind accretion in Vela X-1

Abstract
We present results from a 40 ksec RXTE observation of Vela X-1.
The observation was characterized by unexpectedly strong absorption and
included an extended dip in the lightcurve. Based on analysis of the
broad-band X-ray spectra during and outside the dip we discuss possible
explanations for this behaviour. In addition, we address the question of
the fundamental cyclotron line energy of Vela X-1.
