COMPTEL Solar Flare Table Headings
COMPTEL Solar Flare Table Heading Descriptions
- Comptel Flare #
- The naming convention we have chosen is sfYYMMDD_HHMMSS.
sf signifies
the event is a solar flare. HHMMSS corresponds to the event start time as
designated by the Batse flare list at GSFC.
- TJD
- Truncated Julian Day.
- GOES Start Time
- Start time is obtained from online xray solar flare data
at the
NOAA National Geophysical Data Center. This time can be of use
to people interested in optical and radio data of these flares.
- GOES class
- Flare class is also obtained from online xray solar flare data
at the
NOAA National Geophysical Data Center.
- Batse Flare #
- Flare number is an event numbering convention assigned at the GSFC.
- Batse Trigger #
- If an event is seen by Comptel, then the event most likely triggered
Batse as well. Batse trigger numbers are in a database
at the University of New Hampshire.
- Comptel Total
Counts
- Number of counts collected during the integration time
interval.
- Comptel PeakCounts
- Peak Comptel count rate in integration time interval
- Integration Time
Time interval over which Comptel counts are analyzed.
- Batse Peak Counts
- Peak Batse counts per 2000 square centimeters per second
- GRO Mass
- CGRO instrument mass through which detected gamma rays pass.
- Figures
- LO energy range: Approximately 0.1 - 0.6 MeV
- HI energy range: Approximately 0.6 - 10.7 MeV
- Light curves are counts per seconds vs. time, with raw data plotted on top,
background subtracted data on bottom.
Between the two are plots of background 15 orbits before,
background 15 orbits after, and the average of these two backgrounds.
Energy Spectra are counts per second
vs. energy (MeV), raw data on top, average background in the middle,
and background subtracted on bottom. Note! this is a count spectrum not a
photon spectrum.
